I tried to install some critical ME updates. I do not know
if the succeeded, but aftewards my system froze. I spent
4 hours on the phone with Micorosoft support in India. In
save mode, we removed the update, did Scandisc, tried to
defrag (it wouldn't), created an install disc. Tried
running setup to install it twice (very long time), but
received an SUWIN error. She said there is nothing they
can do, and I need to use the ME install disc, but when I
bought the system from HP they just gave me System
Recovery CD's. So I use those I assume I will loose
everything. I also called HP. After 45 minutes they said
the same thing. Any Ideas? Currently my system if very
slow and Internet Explore just gives me an hour glass.
Doing alt-cntl-del says no response.

With the limited capabilities of HP restore disks, a reinstall may be
the best option.

Try defrag in Safe Mode:
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
