- Service Pack 1 update causes my desktop to be lost
- Posted by Eric on January 28th, 2004
Hi. I have a ATI Radeon 9600 pro video card. I want to
update the driver and I am instructed to download service
pack 1 so I do the usual windows update and everytime I
do my desktop disappears. I have constant problems every
single time I download any of these so called security
updates. I have wiped and reformatted my hard drive 3
times now and have tried this with minimal software
enviroments loaded on a clean machine and still have this
problem. ATI says it is a Microsoft issue. I can't seem
to get any support help through Microsoft I bought
windows XP packaged and sealed froma local computer store
but when I try to submit an online tech support issue or
get a telephone number it asks me to input my product ID.
I do so and get an error message stating it is a oem
product shipped with PC contact your manufacturer. This
is wrong it did not come with this pc. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.
