SP2?
Posted by Roy on August 18th, 2003

I have a daughter whose PC has Windows XP installed. She called me today
asking about the infamous Slow down problem that has just hit her system.
I had her check and sure enough the 811493 Hotfix is installed. I have
asked her to remove it as a check. The odd thing is that all of her
hotfixes are labeled as (SP1) where mine are SP2. Has she missed an update
somewhere? How do I get her onto SP2?

Hi Roy
It sounds like your daughter hasn't yet installed the main service pack 1.
All Hotfixes labled as SP1 were incorporated into Service Pack 1 (so a
system with the main SP1 installed should not show sp1 hotfixes in
add/remove programs). The hotfixes you see on your machine as being SP2 are
patches for issues which will be corrected by the main service pack 2 when
it is released.

Hi Mark,
Thanks. I get the flow now. I have the SP1 CD here. I don't think I
would be violating any prohibitions if I took it over and updated hers
since they are just fixes. Maybe I can just burn her a copy of that CD. I
don't think this is a problem, do you.
