sp4 install failure
Posted by debedits on December 31st, 2003

Lengthy (I gave up at 7+ hours) download of SP4 never
completes. I see here other people having similar
problems, but I'm wondering if the following is
causing/contributing to mine. Recently had W2K reinstalled
twice (system crash, then system lockout) by a friend,
then a tech servie. Both saved my previous files, the
first by partitioning my c: & creating an e:. The second
didn't partition but saved both as folders in my c:. End
result is 2 or 3 copies of many files, including some sp4
files from a download before crashes. Do I need to get rid
of all these "copies" before I try to install sp4 again?
If so, can I just delete them from the subfolders they're
in or do I have to uninstall sp4 even though it never
fully installed? And if I have to uninstall, how do I know
if I have the right files for successful uninstall?

Related question: I've reinstalled my printers, but the
hardware wizard is telling me to "insert my sp4 disc" so
it can locate the drivers. The orig sp4 update was through
the Website so of course no disc. Can I direct it to one
of the subfolders before deleting them or will I cause
myself more trouble?

Thanks.

I recommend posting on the Windows 2000 newsgroups for possible suggestions:

Since the question related to sp4 install, thought this
would be the right newsgroup but I'll try your advice. In
the meantime (just an FYI), I did direct the printer
install wizard to the subfolders and have managed to get
both printers operating. Thanks anyway.
