- SUS client install failure, suggestions?
- Posted by David on September 4th, 2003
I have just setup SUS Services, succesfully downloaded
and approved updates.
I have a Windows XP Pro machine which I also just
finished installing, ALL updates via Windows Update, so
this machine has SP1 and all the fixins. SUS Client
WUAU22.msi refuses to install. It says:
"Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update requires Windows
2000 SP2 or Windows XP."
What's up with that? The white papers say Windows 2000
SP2 or greater, Windows XP, Windows XP SP1, Windows
Server 2003, etc... ARG!!!!!! I have Windows XP SP1.
thanks,
David

Microsoft just words that terrible! What it needs to say
is Windows 2002 SP2 and higher versions already have this
client on them. Anything lower and the client needs to be
installed ie win98,me. The automatic updates icon in the
control panel is not there. That is the only time you need
to install the client. GJ microsoft on the bad wording!

There is a specific newsgroup for SUS and they will be able to answer all
your questions.
