SUS Functioning
Posted by Direct Access Grouips on November 7th, 2003

I have installed SUS in a test domain and it does everything but send
updates to the machines in the domain -- not very useful so far. I run
MSBA after the machines are supposed to have updated and show the same list
of critical patches missing.

Can I force an update attempt to see if SUS is working?

How can I check the functionality? Is there a log file anywhere? I don't
see any entries on the target machines.

The event log on the SUS server shows that the service started, and it
synchronizes properly.

When the service starts it shows an option error, the core of which is:
Software Update Services failed to load some configuration information.
Examples of configuration information include: proxy server configuration,
content location, and client locales to support. Because not all
configuration information was loaded successfully, the default settings will
be used instead.
User Action
To confirm your configuration, go to the Software Update Services Admin Web
site (http://<YourServerName>/SUSAdmin), and click the Set options link.
Additional Data
One or more errors occurred while loading the settings file
'D:\inetpub\wwwroot\autoupdate\dictionaries\settin gs.txt'. (Error
0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.)

I have deleted the settings.txt and reset the options, thus creating a new
file.

Help!

Fyi, there is a separate newsgroup for SUS:

microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...wareupdatesvcs

URL to the group softwareupdatesvcs for those who uses the Web
interface to access the newsgroups:
