- SUSE Linux will destroy your hard drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Posted by Ishtar Singh on November 25th, 2003
You have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Install SUSE Linux on a system that already has Windows installed or
any other Linux distribution installed and SUSE will overwrite all of
your partitions!!!!!
Leave it to the krauts to try and control everything.

The computer at my right knee [1] has 3 different SuSE 8.2
installs, one SuSE 9.0 install and one Mandrake 9.2 install all
working harmoniously. It's fairly easy to set something like
that up with grub, and SuSE even gives you desktop icons for the
partitions which aren't in use so it's easy to access them
without booting into them.
Any installation (including Windows) will try to take over the
entire hard drive if you don't know how to partition and install
or can't follow the simple directions in the SuSE and Mandrake
installers.

KDE and Qt with different release and development versions of
several KDE and Qt dependent projects. I have two other old
machines set up similarly with older SuSE, RH and Mdk installs.

Isn't this a bit like standing up before an astronaut convention and
proclaiming that the earth is flat? What is the point of going to a
linux forum where everyone knows "Y" and telling them "X" ???
I don't get it.

idiotic.

You must have misread something because I have always installed SuSE on
machines with reasonably complex partition schemes and at least since the
late 7.x series, SuSE has made intelligent decisions about partitioning
and has NEVER screwed up any existing partition.
It even knows when you have another Linux distro and asks you if you want
to keep it intact or something like that.
Now I *have* seen previous versions of Redhat overwrite everything, but
not before asking. The problem with Redhat was that if you took the easy
install option, the question was a little obtuse and if you were not
careful you might cause damage.
However that was fixed at least a couple of versions ago.
I think you need to read the help screens SuSE offers up with each step
during the installation process because you are dangerous.
If you need any help with SuSE I would be willing to assist you.

Of course, I RTFM before I installed SUSE, and didn't hit keys at
random. If you claim that you were too inept to follow clear
instructions and that you managed to tell Yast to blow away your fetid
windoze system, I'm willing to believe you. Fortunately, none of the
people that I've discussed Linux with are that dunderheaded.
