- System Slowdown
- Posted by abz on September 10th, 2003
Hello Peeps
Last week I noticed my PC had slowed down after using
Windows Update. The opening and closing of programs took
a lot longer than usual.
Shutting down also taking upto 5 mins before windows
finaly closed.
So I reformated and reinstalled XP, reinstalled my
drivers and other bits of software. Great my system runs
super fast again....until I use WindowsUpdate and I'm
right back to the same problem.
Any ideas which update is causing this?

Which update causes the slowdown?
Try these:
Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online:
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/hom...ZTYMWPAZTJWUFJ
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-up
Run Defrag.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)
This may apply if you recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 1:
