Look in the Window trouble shooter page. Here is the
reply:
First try these steps:
Enable the UserData Persistence option in IE. Please
follow these steps to enable this setting:
1. Open Internet Explorer (IE).
2. On the menu, click on Tools, and select Internet
Options from the drop-down menu.
3. Click on the Security tab.
4. Make sure the Internet Zone is selected and click on
the Custom Level button.
5. Under the Miscellaneous section, verify that "Enable"
is selected for the UserData Persistence option.
6. Click OK to save the setting.
7. Close all open IE windows.
8. Connect to the Windows Update site and you should be
able to save your Personalization Settings.
If the first set of steps don't resolve the issue, then
please follow these steps:
1. Close all open IE windows, then open Windows Explorer.
2. Navigate to the appropriate folder according to the
operating system you are running.
If you are running Win98/ME, then navigate to this folder:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\UserData
If you are running Win2K/XP, then navigate to this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\UserData
3. Within the \UserData folder, you should see four sub-
folders that have been randomly named.
4. Check the contents of each of these sub-folders and
delete any files you see that have names similar to the
following:
oWindowsUpdate[1].xml
oWindowsUpdate[2].xml
oWindowsUpdate[3].xml
oWindowsUpdate[4].xml
You may see multiple versions of these files in the
folders, and some of the folders may be empty. Delete any
of these files that you find.
5. Now connect to the Windows Update site and configure
the Personalization settings. Test the site to make sure
the settings remain after connecting to the site several
times.
