Unable to Update WindowsXP
Posted by Barry on November 29th, 2003

Dear All,

I used to update my WindowsXP Pro Service Pack 1 thru the
online Windows Update website. However, recently I
started getting error messages from the site and I can't
proceed to update.

I wpuld appreciate it very much if you can assist me for
a possible solution on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

BARRY

Windows Update Troubleshooter
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Open Internet Explorer and either type or copy and then paste this into the
Address bar:
%windir%\windows update.log
Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download. Now look on
the Troubleshooter page for the error code(s) that you have located and try
the suggested solution.

Why can't I download updates?

Follow this:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Look for:
"Scan quickly reaches 100% and displays "There are no updates
available" message / log file lists error 0x800C0008 or 0x80072EE4"
"The error 0x800A138F is displayed when scanning for updates, but the
Windows Update.log file will show error 0x800C0008"

Otherwise try this checklist:
