update 819696
Posted by Dale Shelton on July 30th, 2003

I installed update 819696 and after the install I am not
able to copy the files in folder "\windows\system32
\config".

I receive, "error copying file or folder cannot copy
DEFAULT: it is being used by another person or program.
Close any program that might be using the file and try
again."

I don't have any other programs running. Is there a way
to get the file DEFAULT fixed so that the folder it is in
can be copied?

In article <OR7n7M8VDHA.2156@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl>,
a-chferr@online.microsoft.com says...
Since installing this update on XP Pro, my mouse and screen have frozen
about 5 times this past week. Only a reboot will bring it back; it won't
go into Task Manager. I can't even remember the last time this happened
prior to this update.

Something ain't right..

Chuck,
Thank you for the reply. I did a disk to disk copy using
MaxBlast while windows was running a few days prior to
applying this update. I think the copy operation was not
a good thing to do. I have found several things not
working correctly and have restored my system to attempt
to get back to normal. I uninstalled the update and the
tried it again and it failed. I have not tried any
updates again since restoring my system but now doubt
the update was the problem. I guess I cannot copy the
windows folder with windows running, is this true?
