Update Hangs At 0%
Posted by allen on January 7th, 2004

I am a windows XP home edition user and I can't seem to
update windows via the website. Once i click on the scan
button, the scan progress remains at 0% and does not move.
No error message nor do the browser hang (as in I can
still click on the browsers buttons fine), it is just
that the scan progress do not budge from 0%

It used to work just fine until a month ago or so and I
do not remember making any changes to my computer
settings.

I have tried solving the problem using the suggestions
given in the troubleshooting section but they do not seem
to work for me.

Please help,
Allen

ps: my automatic update is working fine.

I am experiencing the exact same problem on my Win98, 2nd
edition system. I thought it was due to the age of
Win98,2e, but I see you have same issue with WinXP. My
browser is IE6.0. Sorry I can't help. Like you I seek
advice.

The following solution, found at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/,
worked on my Win98 system that was experiencing same
symptoms:
---
Install the latest scripting engine 5.6 from:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?
url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
---
Hope this helps.

Same for me, Windows XP home IE 6.0...etc. Was working
fine in Nov 2003. Now Hangs at 0%. Tried the "Install the
latest scripting engine 5.6" fix mentioned at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot with
no success. Cannot find any 'Repair' feature on the
Control Panel that was also suggestion 2 on that site.

Suspected last update to IE caused the problem so did a
roll back to checkpoint before that - no joy.

Hummm.... any ideas?

It seems there must be a glitch in the updates. My problem
is I cannot update my Win2K OS, but my XPhome seems to be
ok. I guess Microsoft will say there's not a problem, but
release some type of fix anyway.
