- Update no longer updates....
- Posted by Ray Lancon on September 4th, 2003
When logging on I now get the following message....
The Windows Update site has been updated. To update your
version of the software and begin using Windows Update,
click Update Now.
So I press update....
then the "Do you want to install and update"
authenticator screen which displays
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...6/unicode/iuct
l.cab?37867.7813310185"?
the publisher cannot be determined due to the problems
below:
Authenticode sig not found.
So far I tried lowering all security options to low and
adding all of the MS sites (v4. windows update, windows
update microsoft.com and download windows update.com) to
the trusted sites list.....
Still cannot update.....any ideas? I'm really stumpted
here. I want to get this update working again. Don't know
why it won't work now. I just updated on my laptops so I
know the site is working.
I have a SOny viao running xp .....
Thanks in advance.

Manually install the latest Windows Update controls:
For Windows XP:
Download the controls from: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...code/iuctl.cab
and save them to your desktop.
Extract the .cab file following the steps below:
1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.
2. Click "Open".
3. Select all the files listed.
4. Right click on them and click "Extract."
5. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."
6. Go to the location you selected and right click the iuctl.inf file.
5. Click "Install."

message on this newsgroup on Sept 3rd: but I experience
exactly (your words put it best) the same problem with my
Windows Me;
I tried this morning (I'm in Bretagne) to contact
wugnet:their homepage is unavailable; so something there
must be going on too...
In this newsgroup, I looked up the most known problems:
try a "manual installation instruction for windows update
controlls" It did not work for me, because the extracting
operation of the cab file halted for some undecipherable
reason, so I could not manage the iuctl.inf file...
Let me know if you managed to find something that works.
