URGENT - Last Security Update Kills my Internet Access
Posted by Wayne on February 12th, 2004

Hi,

I installed the latest set of four Hot Fixes via the
Update link at windowsupdate.microsoft.com. After re-
booting, I couldn't access the Internet via my DSL
connection.

Upon checking with my ISP (Earthlink), and working through
a whole set of troubleshooting tasks, they confirmed that
my connection was fine (the DSL Modem seems to suggest the
same), and that it seems the operating systems is
preventing access.

Is there anything in the latest security patches that
prevent access to the Internet via DSL. I did the same on
my work laptop and all works fine. The operating system is
the same in both cases (Windows Server 2003), as my work
involves development on this platform.

Any suggestions on what I can check to correct this issue.
I worked through all network settings and all looks fine.
I even backed out the Hotfixes as a test to no avail.
Finally, I re-installed Windows Server 2003 which removed
all Hotfixes (I can't access the Internet to run the
updates again), so I am totally stumped on this one.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Wayne
