Windows Crashes When Installing Windows Update
Posted by Andy on January 30th, 2004

Downloaded 14 updates last night and returned this morning
to find that the computer had rebooted and had an error
report message which I sent. Just downloaded 47.3MB(?) of
updates and when the download finished, it began to install
then within 10 seconds the computer crashed, flashed a .5
second blue screen error message and restarted. The error
reporting information that I sent was as follows:

Error Report Contents

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini013004-03.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\DR65CF~1.MAC\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.di r00\sysdata.xml

Error Signature

BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : FA328000 BCP2 : 00000000
BCP3 : FA325A73
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0
Product : 256_1

I still have 9 critical updates, 19 Windows XP updates, and
3 driver updates according to the Windows Update site.
However, if these updates are not working, I'm not inclined
to spend the time to download them. Furthur more, I would
like to figure out how to remedy this problem. I am
accessing the Windows Update site in IE 6 and am running XP
Pro. I would welcome any help. Please email me at

To determine which update is conflicting we need to restore the system to
the prior state before the updates:

Next,

Install each update one at a time.

Please let us know the results.
