If this error occurs see the address line and if no
https change the address to https etc. and then
it will work, at least by me!

Hi Tim,
This seems to have worked for some of us, so have a try at either going
to C:/Windows/Hosts searching for and deleting the entry a248.e.akamai.net
or if you are using Spyblocker you can achieve the same via
'Setup/Find/a248.e.akamai.net/Unblock Checked/Save/OK.
It would appear that Microsoft Windows Update is now using the IPS of the
akamai URL and has consequently become a blocked site.

AFAIK, the Hosts file location depends on which version of Windows it is. And this C:\Hosts would appear to be created by Spyblocker (which you have mentioned).
The "normal" location of Hosts is at
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc (for Windows XP)
or on Win2000 at C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc
