- Windows Update Error
- Posted by Mark on August 22nd, 2003
I have Windows XP Professional and have been trying to
get the updates from Microsofts. Every time I hit the
Scan for Updates link I get this error notice which
states: Windows Update had encountered a error and cannot
display the requested page. I do have have a firewall,
but that was never a problem before. I feel it might be
an admistrative function, or something similar, that is
preventing this. If you know which one or if something
else is the problem, please let me know.

Mark, I was able to properly update Win98SE after updating
SpyBot and Pest Patrol. Maybe antispyware programs are at
fault here. Apparently Microsoft is now using Akamai as
part of its upgrade distribution and the spyware blocking
programs didn't like Akamai. Good luck.

Jim,
great idea, but I still get the same notice. Thanks for
the antispyware suggestion. Is there another reason for
this I would like to know. Thanks again Jim.

Mark and Jim, I am running XP Home and have the same
problem as Mark. I am also running Spy Sweeper from
Webroot and have shut it off but that does no good for
me. I usually check for updates daily and did NOT have
the 0x800A138F error until Microsoft changed update
servers to avoid the BLASTER virus attack. I'm glad you
were able to solve your problem in SE Jim.
