Windows Update experience

Hello,

I do not have the Blaster worm and my win2000sp4 installation was checked
one week ago normally at WU.

Tonight my attempt to connect to Windows Update via IE6 menu resulted in
being shown the page "Thank you for your interest.." So I did the
following:

1. I pinged/resolved the IP of download.windowsupdate.com, and added that
entry to my hosts file.

2. Second attempt at accessing Windows Update via IE6 resulted in
successful entry to the update site, which had a red banner section about
avoiding the worm by d/lding appropriate updates. An update scan was
executed on demand, normal result.

3. Closed IE, and REMOVED the added IP entry from hosts file. Cleared
History and TIF from browser.

4. Opened IE and attempted access normally via Tools/WU menu to Windows
Update. Connection was made, and normal WU screen displayed, MINUS banner
warning on the worm. Just normal WU dialog. Subsequent update scan
executed normally.
