- Windows Update Killed My Computer
- Posted by Sandy on February 2nd, 2004
Received message today from Microsoft that said I needed
one critical security update. I downloaded the update and
ever since cannot access ANYTHING (except Outlook
Express) - I can send and receive emails so I know it
isn't Comcast. Can someone help? I see no avenue to
contact Microsoft without paying. This isn't right!

Sandy,
How did Microsoft contact you?

Go start menu -> control panel -> Add or Remove Programs
From the list of installed programs, find:
Internet Explorer Q832894
And remove it. This is at least for WinXP Professional. It might be named
differently on different OS versions.
This patch completely disabled my wireless internet connection on one PC
when I installed it, but after I uninstalled it and ran Windows Update
again, downloaded it and applied it again, it worked just fine.
Who knows.
