Windows Update locks up
Posted by Lisa on February 8th, 2004

I have Windows ME and use Internet Explorer
6.0.2800.1106. Everytime I go to the Windows Update page
it freezes up on the first page and says "scanning for
updates" but does not advance. Or I get the message that
the page is still loading but then it freezes up. I went
to the troubleshoot site and my specific problem was not
addressed. I don't receive any 0% or other percent errors
or any other error message other than the one mentioned. I
don't receive any error message with numbers in it.
Usually I don't get far because it usually freezes almost
immediately upon entering the site.

Lisa,

Some things to try:

Follow the steps listed in the following KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;319585

This can also happened if an installed program is intercepting the Windows
Update process.
Here's a knowledge base article with a list of some known programs:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;241234
For testing purposes you may try temporarily disabling any web
enhancement/accelerator/Antivirus programs before accessing the site.

Thanks for the advice but it still won't load. I have
reset all of my web settings, disabled anti-virus,
restarted computer, and still no luck.
