I am trying to update my XP Pro computer but when i get
to the Windows Update page i get an "Access Denied"
message and am told to contact my Administrator.

Any suggestions? Please...

Hello Steve,

Take a look at C:\Windows\Windows Update.log. Are there any error messages
toward the bottom of the log file? If so, please post the relevant lines
here.

There are no errors in the Windows Update.log file. What
else could it be?

If you are comfortable editing your system registry you can resolve this
issue as follows.
Check your registry to see if either of the following values exists:

1.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Window
sUp
date] "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess"=dword:00000001

2.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explor
er]
"NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000001

These keys will block user access to the Windows Update site if set
incorrectly. Make sure
these keys are set to 0 to allow access.

This also will occur if the account that the user is using does not have
full permissions
to the Program Files\Windowsupdate\V4\Temp folder and the iuident.cab is not
in this folder.
