Windows XP and security update 811493
Posted by Tim on July 6th, 2003

I keep being prompted by windows update to install this update, which i have
done about 8 times now, but still keep being informed i need to download and
install it. I don't know why this happens, and i have re-started after
installing it, and so on, yet am still asked to install it again, as though
i havent at all yet!

In the 'update history' section of the windows update screen, this patch has
been confirmed as installed successfully every time, so i don't know why i
should need to keep re-installing it!

Any help would be appreciated for this annoying incident!

Tim;
Try renaming catroot2 file:
Reboot, login to an Administrator account.
Double click My Computer.
Double click C drive.
Double click Windows file.
Double click System32 file.
Right click catroot2, click rename, type "catroot2old"
ENTER

Also:
Go to Internet Options in the Control Panel:
Delete Cookies
Delete Files (check box "Delete all offline content")
Clear History

Tim, this happen to me, because of a Modified boot screen I installed from a
website "reThemexp.com" I had to uninstall q811493, delete ntoskrnl.exe in
c:windows\system32 folder, reboot to let windows replace it with original
and reinstall q811493 w\out antivirus running. reboot agian. When I went
back to scan for updates no more notification.
