Downloading allright, although longer than announced.
Then a windows of web site dialog takes ages to fill in
until showing installation complete.
But simultaneously a window of Installation assistant
show dum indications of time still to run several
hundreds minutes ( by then 700 ) and when I cancel, my
whole installation is reported as failed or canceled:
this after having been on line three hours. Can anyone
tell me what's wrong?

Charles --

Perform a Disk Cleanup:

[Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup]

Next, download SP1 directly, then install it.

Windows XP Service Pack 1 (direct download)
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/p...1/default..asp

Note: Select "Network Installation" (32-bit)

P.S. Make sure to disable your antivirus program and close any
open programs before installing it.
