I was having all kinds of trouble running WindowsUpdate
with my setup. I have Windows XP on one computer with
three others connected to the same router. My ISP
topology includes a wireless CDMA endpoint. Not to
confuse the issue but I just wanted to give some
background on how reading FAQs and Knowledge bases from
both Microsoft and the manufacturers of your equipment
could ultimately provide an inexpensive (read pay for
phone support) solution. Basically if you have the router
mentioned in the Subject field of this message, check the
knowledge database, if not you still might glean some
clues as to what you need to do to restore a broken
ability to use the WindowsUpdate site. Basically (again)
Microsoft is using ports that relate to IPSec and VPN
functionality. The reason that I do not provide specifics
is that to many hardware configurations exist out there
and I deal all day during the week with remote
connectivity as it relates to PCs so getting on a
computer to do trouble shooting is like ripping me off
from my relaxation time. Good luck.
