Hi, is it OK to update security updates etc. with NT 4.0 via the
windowsupdate website? It seems to work OK but I wonder if it was
recommended.

Yes, Windows Update is there to update all versions of Windows. It will do
the following:

Increase Security
Fix potential problems
Make the system run more stable
etc.

Each update will normally do at least one of the above plus much more to try
and in general improve your system. Go ahead and update your system using
Windows Update, you may not notice any difference, but it is doing stuff in
the background.
