- WinME IE6 SP1 setup unable to install components
- Posted by MS news groups on March 3rd, 2004
I'm trying to install the critical update for IE6 SP1 using Windows Update
service but it fails at 93%. Message as follows:
Setup was unable to install all the components. Please close all
applications and try running setup again."
I have tried terminating all applicaitons except Explorer and Systray and
cleaned up any 0byte OEM*.INF files, as well as deleting all files in the
WINDOWS\TEMPORARY FILES folder. I also deleted the WININIT.INI file.
I have done a current Spybot clean and run a virus scan from the Symantec
web site.
How can I get this update to apply?

or
Try downloading the full install package of IE6 SP1 and installing it

don't mean to be 'curt', but ME stinks.....perhaps a $90
upgrade to XP would be beneficial....has solved problems
in a lot of cases of people who ask me for help.

Sorry, have to disagree. Have a ME system that's been running for over 3
years without ANY major issues. It's the hardware/PC manufacturer's that
stunk up ME. I will pit this ME machine against any XP machine anytime,
anywhere ... oh yeah ... and, there are NO Symantec products even
allowed in the same room
