- Posted by ed on July 12th, 2003
Hello, I run Windows ME and Explore 6, and I want to
update the system with whatever is being offered. However
when it tells me it is scanning for updates, it doesn't -
it freezes at 0% and nothing get's accomplished. With this
computer, no updates have been installed since the last
time it was formatted... please help, what should i do?

If you go to c:\windows\windows update.log and scroll down to the bottom are
there any errors? Can you post the relevant lines here?

Hi.
In IE, try going to Tools-Internet Options-Connections.
Click on the "LAN Settings" button. Make
sure, "Automatically detect settings" is NOT checked.
Click "OK" twice. Close IE and try Windows Update again.

Mark,
If you were using a newsreader ( Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger,
Forte, etc. ) then you would see that you're posting what has been
mentioned in posts previous to yours. Dump the browser interface
(Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000) to derive greater benefit from the
newsgroup.
Good point though, Mark. The LAN settings is a "sticky" hangup for
Windows Updates.
