- WU thinks I use Win2000
- Posted by Mike Beaudry on November 26th, 2003
Trying to connect to windows updat on this (win98)
computer, it never gets to the page where I can scan for
updates. Instead I get an 'Adminstrators Only' page,
telling me how (on a Windows 2000 machine) I should rerun
windows update as a system admin.
We have only ever had this computer (win98) connected to
the internet using dialup. It is on a network running
winNT but it has always been like this. We never had
winupdate problems before.
I've tried logged in as the NT system adminstrator, but
even that doesn't help. What is Windows update actually
testing before deciding (wrongly) I must be a Win2000
machine?
I can't find anything in the KB dealing with WU mis-
determining your machine. Help!
