- WUTemp using a different drive letter
- Posted by morris on February 26th, 2004
I have a very weird problem. Sometime over the last few
months Windows update has decided to use a virtual drive
letter to write the WUTemp subdirectory. It does this
both when updating from the web and when using the
automatic update. The net of this is that after the
files are downloaded they fail the CRC check and don't
install. I have searched the registry and all the hard
drives for a clue as to a setting somewhere, but can't
find anything to fix this problem. I have also tried
disabling auto update and the re-enabling hoping to reset
this. I think it happened when I ran low on space on all
my real drives and it was looking for someplace to
download the updates.
Any other ideas are much appreciated.

Windows Update uses the drive with most available space for wutemp - this
can't be changed.
