Your problem relates to the query that is immediately
prior as well as my response....As far as I can discern
the link provided from Windows Update (I am assuming that
is where you got the link) is actually one that was
oversighted...it doesn't refer you to a site for service
pack 1a...if you are new to all of this and you are
actually linking to the sp1 express link at windows
update...you can wait forever...it is not going to
finish. I read half a novel (~6hrs) away from my system,
and it managed to almost download the initial setup
installer that is 1.9MB...this is supposed to be followed
by a more comprehensive ~30MB installer that downloads the
remainder and installs to a total of about 155MB (as I
recall)....If you get this to work, I will pay you to let
me upload the installer from you...I've given up.
I am worried that installing sp1a may be inherently
incompatible, but I have never seen any such warning
(aside from an occasional we do not recommend installing
1a if 1 is already installed....no level of consequence is
ever alluded to.
Good Luck,

is C(raig)HICKS - initial and last name.
Oh, I forgot. If you do have VM installed (ie, at the
command line you type jview <cr> and receive parameters
(not unknown command), the the microsoft updater should
catch this and provide you with a list of about 40+/-
links that actually comprise the majority of SP1. I
downloaded them all -- but installing them creates visions
of sequential BLUE SCREENS over and over and an
unsalvagable result. Maybe I'm paranoid. If someone
knows more about this let me know...I am SICK of reading
the less than helpful Microsoft documentation.
