- XP service pack 1
- Posted by Carolyn on March 7th, 2004
A computer friend told me long ago not to download this
because of all the problems it causes...so I didn't.
Recently I noticed a service pack 1a, so I thought maybe
Microsoft had fixed it and I decided to download it and
see what happened. It completely messed up my
computer...would not even boot correctly. I removed the
service pack and went back to normal operation. So, what
is the deal?

The first thing servicepack1 does is to check if your
serial number is valid, (ie:not a pirated one) than
corrects many importants security issues vital to people
connected to the internet, like patches that correct many
virus abuses that exploit the first XP code.
The first release of SP1 had the Microsfot VM virtual
machine for Java in it.
but due to legal issues from SUN microsystems, Microsoft
no longer have the rights to install a java client in his
operating system, than they have to issue SP1a which laks
this java stuff.
