I would recommend downloading and installing SP1 directly
from the following web site, instead of downloading it from
the Windows Update web site.
Windows XP Service Pack 1 (direct download)
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/p...1/default..asp
Note: Select "Network Installation" (32-bit)
P.S. Make sure to disable your antivirus program and close any
open programs before installing it.

| I ran the system scan on Windows XP Home Edition update site which
| returned a list of updates. I also received a message saying that the
| "critical" Windows XP Service Pack 1 needed to be installed first. I
| clicked on "Install" and the routine downloaded 1.9MB of 1.9MB. After
| waiting for a while, I clicked on "Install" again, but the
| installation process never started up. (I was accessing MS's update
| page via AOL.) I waited over a half and hour, but nothing ever
| happened. I uninstalled the Service Pack and associated hot fixes and
| went through the entire process again. Same results -- 1.9MB
| downloaded but no startup on the installation procedures. Any ideas
| what's happening? How do I get the installation process to start and
| sucessfully install the Service Pack update? TIA.
