Cannot get update to work. Never had a problem on this
machine with the OS in using UPDATE in couple years. Been
updating at least weekly. Went through Troubleshooter and
checked all five items suggeted to no avail. Went
through message board where a couple of folks today claim
similar problem with 0x800C0008 but no one responded to
them.

Would an expired certificate (Verisign) have anything to do with this? That
is the only variance between my settings and the info on that page.

-=CROZ=- ,
Clear the Internet Cache as described :
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/0x800c0008.htm
Now go here :
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
If that fails, do all the steps listed here :
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/updtcl.htm
TEMPORARILY disable your antivirus program and any script blocking
component of it, also, ANY 3rd party internet related software that may
interfere.

Hiyas! And thanks for responding =)
Done.
Still no-go =*( - IE locks up for a few minutes, then I get the error
message telling me that my clock might be wrong, so Windows Update is
unavailable.
The only step that I could not do was repair IE (IE is not in the list of
add/remove programs.../shrug) - followed the rest to the letter and still
not able to update Windows (also having intermittent problems accessing
secure websites, but that's a completely different sore spot =P).
IE is version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2, 128-bit strength, with SP1, Q330994,
Q824145, if that would make any difference in any further advice you could
offer - ANY would be extremely appreciated.
