autoplay

I wonder if anyone can help me get the disc drive on my laptop to autoplay?
I have a Tiny laptop running Windows XP and it is the D drive.
I have tried everything I can think of but am getting nowhere. I cleaned the
drive and when I put a music cd or a dvd in instead of playing it opens
windows explorer. From there I can "select all" and make it play music
files but when it has a dvd in explorer then when I selct all and try to
force the opening of the video it tries to load it into the C drive first.
I have gone into the device manager and have tried every setting under the
autoplay tab, then every time have restarted the computer but nothing
changes, I do not even get the offer to prompt me when the disc is loaded.
I have installed Tweak U1 and again under the computer tab have tried all
the settings, drives, types and handlers under autoplay but that does not
work either.
If the drive did not turn and read as above I would try a new driver but do
not think that would make any difference.
Has anyone any ideas?
Thank you

Hi Stewart,
To reset autoplay handlers the first thing that we tried to do is backup and
delete the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandler
s\UserChosenExecuteHandlers

May also want to run:
<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c680a7b6-e8fa-45c4-a171-1b389cfacdad&displaylang=en>
this is the Microsoft Autoplay Repair wizard

Thank you Gurpreet for the information.
Unfortunately despite trying all you suggested the D drive will still not
autoplay. It is definately working as I can go into the folder that opens
and play the music etc from there.
I deleted the files you suggested in the registry (there is one left that I
cannot delete) and tried the microsoft download, have also tried tweek
again.
I noticed that the microsoft download did not appear to put an entry back in
the registry, do you think that it should have? In other words there is
still just that one entry under "userchosenexecutehandlers".
Thanks again.
