Can't install windows security updates and teh Defrag is not avail
Posted by Milo on December 25th, 2007

Windows updates will download but not install. I was going to defrag my hard
drive and when I went to programs, accessories, system tools the link for
defrag was missing. I defrag every few months and it was there last time.
My PC is old. It is a HP a305w bought in 2002. I haven't installed any new
programs. I did have major problems a couple of months ago with my office
programs. Something happened to them where the e.e program would not open
them any more. I had to reinstall all of them.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to help fix this? I can't find my restore
disc I got with the PC. Thanks.

Go to run, type:cmd In cmd typeefrag C: W/O a xp cd,or oem recovery cd
youre limited, however, you might try creating a new user account, open xp in
new,if all is well, the old account might be corrupted, delete it...

Thanks Andrew. The defrag isn't a short cut issue it is a program issues. I
did what you stated, but all I got was a blinp on the screen and then
nothing. I did create a new user. I will see how that works. Have a great
Christmas.
