- Can't Synchronize With Internet Time Server
- Posted by MPCoviello on April 9th, 2006
I get an error when I try to synchronize with time.windows.com:
"An error occured while Windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com.
The time sample was rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than the
host's stratum."
My computer is clean of viruses, spyware, adware, etc. I can't synchronize
with time.nist.gov either. I can ping time.nist.gov but can't ping
time.windows.com. I downloaded Atomic Clock Sync which works, but it's
another process that I'd rather not have running.
Unfortunately, the Knowledge Base is useless as it frequently is.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Yep that happens occasionally and happening to me also.
Try the other option available: time.nist.gov

Thanks for the reply.
Actually, it happens constantly. I can't synchronize at all at anytime.
I have tried both servers.

This one for me "time.windows.com" is still producing an error but the 2nd one
"time.nist.gov" is working okay. For me the problem usually clears up after a
couple of days.
Found this googling - perhaps it's a firewall problem, just a thought.

check the program's documentation to find out how to unblock the NTP (Network
Time Protocol). >
Perhaps someone else may be of assistance.
