Computer stalls durring logon (explorer.exe)
Posted by Matt Modica on May 12th, 2006

This suddenly started happening, and it annoys the heck out of me. Every
time I log on, The computer shows the typical small window that says Loading
your settings... Right after that, the taskbar, desktop icons, etc. normally
appear, but instead, the desktop wallpaper appears, but nothing else does
for about 20 seconds, as if explorer.exe is taking an extra 20 seconds to
load, but there is no disk activity durring this time. After it does load,
everything else works fine. I have tried rebooting and have done a system
restore, but with no success. Unfortunatley, I cannot do a repair install
because it is not an option on the OEM XP disk that came with my computer.
Any suggestions?

I found a solution. Typing this in the run box and hitting enter ran a
utility that corrected the problem.
