Decompressing files compressed with the disk cleanup utility
Posted by Aron on March 14th, 2006

Sorry for the long title. Does anyone know how I would go about
de-compressing files on my main hard dirve that were compressed using the
disk cleanup utility? It is a bit tedius to go through each and every folder
on my hard drive and decompress each file.

Select all files and folders in the root.

I figured that would be the case. I was just hoping someone had a less
time-consuming solution. Oh well. Thanks David.

1 x Ctrl + A, 1 x Right Click - Properties - Advanced, clear a checkbox. Takes 5 seconds to do. It might take 20 mins to finish but you can do something else(make coffee or play freecell). You don't have to watch it..

Are you saying that selecting all files and folders in the C: (root) and then
clearing the checkbox "compress contents to save disk space" under advanced
attributes will uncompress EVERY file and folder on the C: drive that was
compressed?

For the third time yes. Why don't you try reading what I write. Be careful not to compress files in the root or you won't boot again.

Why would you ask and not just do it.

I did do it. And I can't boot. I'm now on another computer. That is why I
asked. And If you will note I was specifically asking if it uncompressed
ALL. Underline "ALL" files. What about the ones that are in use?

I just ran across some of your other posts David. It sounds like you pretty
much know everything - don't you! Your belittling of other people is very
sad. I'll spell out plain for you. ***A S S W I P E***

That's because you compressed all files. Replace NTLDR and NTDetect (and boot.ini) with uncompressed versions.
