I built a desktop computer from various componets and have found that it is a
good one its a little slow because of the processor that i had to use but
none the less it works as i am using it now.
It has Intel Celeron 333MHz proccesor 192mb of ram two hdd 1st one is a 4gb
and the 2nd is a 3gb two cdrw drives and a 3.5 in floppy. usb1.0 and a lynksy
eathernet card.
I am running win xp home sp2 on it with little problems (as for the speed)
are there any special things i need to do besides upgrade to a newer computer
that i can do that will help in its performance.

Don't connect your computer to the internet. You do not have enough RAM
or disk space for security software that will adequately protect you.
Instead, use your computer for tasks, e.g., word processing,
spreadsheets, music library, etc. that do not require an internet
connection. Use software that makes minimal demands on your hardware.
For example, don't use Microsoft Office products.

Building a computer from scratch is fun and rewarding, no matter what
components you use. Enjoy your new computer.

Here's one thing you can try that might help with performance issues.

Go to Control Panel and double click on the System icon.
In System Properties, click on the Advanced page.
On the Advanced page, click on the Settings button in the Performance section.
In Performance, select "Adjust for best performance" on the Visual Effects page.
Click OK.

As far as file storage, I'd suggest relocating your My Documents folder to the
second HD.

I'd also suggest installing an antivirus program that won't use a lot of system
resources. Here are two free options.

Good Job.....its not easy building a working system from spare parts.
I suggest more RAM..........then a larger HD....for a webmachine that would
improve some of the speed
A computer store/builder might just have some old stuff laying around that
they might let you have for free or almost free..that’s how I added to the
1st system I build from parts...and that was in a small town with only 2
stores!!!
If you do Google search for AVG anti virus...you can download and use for
free.
There is a lot of free software out there.
Google is giving away a free Office Suite...........free photo
software...amomg other things.
