Determine the cause of a complete freeze
Posted by skiwi on March 31st, 2006

Using WXP Home (completely up to date with updates).
I have recently installed a gigabyte wireless adapter, to share a cable
internet connection thru a gigabyte wireless router. (ie there is a cable
modem and wireless router - connected to an "other PC" by cable)

The problem I have is that this PC freezes totally (no num lock, no ctrl alt
del) after a while (eg 5 to 20 minutes) of using the home network (eg to
access shared documents and files on another PC.
This PC freezes both if it is accessing the other PC, or if the other PC is
accessing this PC.
It appears related to sharing of files, rather than the internet access.

I'd like to be able to pin it down to a specific driver, configration, or
piece of software (or hardware).

I've searched the MS website and tried a couple of thing, to no avail.
I'd appreciate any suggestions going forward.

your suggestions wold be much appreciared, thanks

Hi

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any 'Errors'.
