- disc defragmenter not running

In performance & maintenence on XP. Trying to run the disc defragmenter. A
window comes up and says "Disc Defragmenter could not start". Any help please.

Run Disk CleanUp in all user profiles to Empty your Recycle Bin and
Remove Temporary Internet Files (in all User Profiles ). Then run chkdsk
before trying Disk Defragmenter again in Safe Mode.
