- Drive letter problems in window explorer
- Posted by Jamie041 on March 30th, 2006
I had to replace my burnt out PSU with a JEANTECH low noise 120mm fan power
supply, on my P4 processor 550 with HT Technology.
I am sure I have connected everything correctly however I now have a drive
letter association problem.
MY DVDRW which should be letter F:, is actually coming up as compact flash
when I look in windows explorer. All other subsequent removable drive (SD,
Memory stick etc) all seem to have moved up one letter, and the final
removable disk on letter J: is showing a Removable Disk when in fact it
should be named.
Is there any way I can get my DVDRW to show up correctly (under properties
it does show as CD drive)
Is there an easy way for me to get all drives to show up correctly?
Thanks

Disconnect your memory stick and any USB devices boot up and go to Disk
Manager (right click on my computer and it is under "manage") once there
change your DVDR to the drive letter you want. (If something has that letter
then you have to change it first). then plug in your other devices and it
should keep.

Topher,
Thanks for your input.
Infortunately for me, in Disk manager all my drives are correctly assigned,
it is only Windows explorer that is wrong. e.g. My DVDRW (drive F
is showing
up as compact flash whcih should be drive g: (unfortunately drive g: is now
smart media etc. etc. However in properties in drive F: it shows as DVD. I
cannot rename drive F: as explorer will not not let me.
I should also add my card reader is a built in 7 in 1, that I have treid to
disconnect power for, but I could not get inot it, withour pulling out lots
of components.
Thanks
Jim
