- Dual Xeon HT Appears as single Proc
- Posted by David Lozzi on December 23rd, 2005
Hello there,
I have Windows XP Pro SP2 running on a dual Xeon 2.0Ghz HT workstation and
once and while, task manager will display only a single CPU Usage History
graph. Most of the time it will display 4 as it should (2 procs w/ HT = 4
CPUs). While its displaying a single proc, Device Manager still displays
ACPI Multiprocessor PC and four Intel Xeon CPU 2.00Ghz. Which one is lying?
This is quite agravating because my system slows down a lot when its
displaying one proc. Any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

you said when it shows just one processor the system performance does go down
to a large extent. therefore you might want to check for bios updates at your
board manufacturer's website or better still just give them a call and ask
them as to what's going on. though it may not help much but well worth a try.
anyways is your system still under warranty??
hope this helps
