- Error Message: "Service program is not active"
- Posted by Edward F on December 26th, 2005
Upon rebooting or opening Windows (XP Pro), I get a dialog entitled Error.
It states: “Service program is not active.” I tried to use System Restore to
get back to the configuration before the problem developed. That apparently
was one of the ‘services’ that is inactive, it didn’t work. I think the
problem was caused by upgrading to Windows Media Player v. 10 which I have
since removed.
I have tried to ‘repair’ Windows in Add and Remove Programs but it didn’t
correct the problem. System Restore is working again, I think, at least it
is showing restore points available. My system may be fully OK, but with the
dialog reappearing all the time, I have no way of knowing. There aren’t any
problems I notice except the machine seems slow as does rebooting.
