Sorry I am a novice,
I cannot shut down, or restart my computer - these error message show up
when ever i try. Also, Norton internet anti virus says they are trying to
conect to an external source and should be blocked!
what are they?
NVDCRT40.EXE and XCOHSERV.EXE
I searched on my copmputer for these files.... it came up with these two:
NVDCRT40.EXE-0AF43DCC.pf
XCOHSERV.EXE-2D8C02D7.pf
both are there and seem ok??? both are in the prefetch folder.
What can I do to get rid of these
Also, itunes will not open up - linked to these errors? I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling i tunes! No help!

No need to apologize for being a novice. Nobody comes out of the womb with a knowledge of computers.
To answer questions like 'what are NVDCRT40.EXE and XCOHSERV.EXE' you search for them on the internet with a search engine, like Google or MSN.
Since both of these terms produce zero results when searching the internet, that is a sure sign that they are almost certainly part of a virus or spyware. Which is another way of saying your computer is infected.
You need to remove this malware completely, which won't be easy. Since you own a Symantec product (Norton Antivirus) you may as well start by asking Symantec technical support for help. If they can't help, you may be looking at wiping your hard disk and starting over.
Don't let this happen to you again. Start reading here:

I did as you both suggested, I used all of the programs you suggested for all
of the problems.... adware, malware, spyware and virus.
Each program found things that were problems - so I sorted them out
But the smae problems keep occuring....
NVDCRT40.EXE and XCOHSERV.EXE still do not load?? They stil lcause my
computer to not shut down or restart.
It looks like the programs I ran worked a little - but not completely!!
I ran; Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security, Spy Bot, Ad-aware, and
teh two programs found here
