event viewer

My computer stops responding, after a few minutes and freezes and I cannot
even shut off computer. Sometimes even a black screen a few seconds. In my
event viewer there are separate errors showing

1) faulting application lxamsp32.exe version 0.98.1.0 faulting module
2) tracfilename parameter not located in registry; default tracefile used
3)error reading log event record. handle specified is 620248. return code
from readeventlog is 122
4) SHPC32-port monitor has encountered a problem

Please are there any steps I can take to correct this? I appreciate your time.

lxamsp32.exe is associated with a Lexmark printer. Ring any bells?

You could do better by copying the Error Reports rather than quoting
extracts.

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A
workaround is copy and
paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off
the copy in your
Inbox or your Sent Items folder.

With a lot of error reports you will need to tackle them individually.
As you solve them others will disappear. Concentrate on Errors rather
than Warnings. Also I would concentrate on those on the System tab, then
the Application tab forgetting the Security tab for now. Let see if we
can eliminate one.

What Lexmark Printer model are you using? Were you using another version
of Windows on the computer before Windows XP? Does the printer work
properly? If not was doesn't work?

says no dial tone. I have dsl through my phone company.

This is from Lexmark Knowledge Base:
http://snipurl.com/ioat

I am not sure I understand how your fax problem is related to your
printer problem. Does the "printer busy" message appear before or after
you get the "no dial tone" message?

I suspect that your "no dial tone" message is because you are connecting
your fax facility to a DSL line and they are normally connected to a
conventional telephone line. How long have you had the printer? Was it
bought locally? Do you have a printer manual and does it explain about
the fax connection? If you have no manual then advice from the supplier
on how to best connect the fax may be a way forward. You may need to
gain advice about how many appliances are connected ( technical word is
REN ) (only so many may be permitted -your phone company will advise )
and the siting of the fax machine on your internal telephone circuit.

Connecting a fax machine to a telephone line, which is also used for
telephone calls can be a frustrating experience. No problems sending
faxes but setting it to automatically receive faxes can cause problems
differentiating between incoming telephone calls and faxes. If you are
to receive more than occasional faxes by arrangement you may need to
consider a dedicated fax line.

Hope this helps.
