- Frequent freezes errors 28,1802, 1806
- Posted by Robin on October 23rd, 2005
My computer running XP Home freezes around every 4 hours and has to be
rebooted. It seems most vulnerable when using my pictures slideshow as
screensaver. Erors in event log are usually 28 - WinMgmt, 1802 02 1806 -
Security Center. What should I do? Thanks in advance. Robin

Gerry
In visual effects "Let Windows Choose what is best". All boxes are checked
In Advanced: Processor adn memory are both set for best performance of
programs. Paging file size 720MB
In DEP, turned on for essential programs and services only
Thanks for your help

What is selected for Processor Scheduling and for Memory Usage?
What is your RAM memory? When the computer starts running
slowly Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and select the
Performance Tab. What is the Commit Charge? What was the Peak?
Have you ever downloaded any memory boosters or the like? Some web sites
can offer these and it can be easy to accept the offer when they are
best declined!

Hope this helps.

Gerry
RAM is 512. The machine does not run slow, it freezes completely so I cannot
get task manager up and look. Is there a history somewhere I can get for you?
I have the event log but can't see a way of attaching it
thanks

Gerry
I have now run the machine for 2 days without the screensaver with no
problem. However, the My Pictures screensaver is important to me so any
suggestions how I can run it safely would be much appreciated
Thanks, Robin
