Go into the power options section of the control panel (Start-Control
Panel-Power Options) and there's a check box for showing the meter on the
task bar. Make sure it's checked.

Kate,
I'm having the exact same issue. Everything is checked as it should be but
no power meter. I have a Compaq Prsario V2414NR. This just happened after the
last update. I'm researching it at the Compaq site also.
