how to reconfigure a raid partition
Posted by rhecht@gmail.com on October 27th, 2005

I am running a windows 2000 server with a RAID 5 partition that has 3
hard drives striped into 2 volumes. I wish to combine both partitions
into one (effectively deleting all info on the secondary drive).
However, when I run partition software (it doesn't matter what, but
just for the heck of it, it's Partition Commander 9.01), it recognizes
2 distinct drives--drive 0 and drive 1. Why does the software recognize
2 distinct drives, when there are really 3? Perhaps this is how it
originally was striped? In that manner, how do I "re-stripe" it so that
only "1 drive" is detected?

To delete a volume (in xp its done this way),boot to xp cd,recovery,in
recovery typeiskPart In DiskPart all volumes show, delete all, then create
one, then press Esc key, then type:EXIT Reboot to xp cd,this time select,
install xp,xp formats and installs auto (the F6 option is used). You
can/should
physically unplug all but 1 when doing DiskPart, after all 3 are thru, replug
them, reconfigure the RAID set, then install xp.

Right, but there are two things to keep in mind:

1. We wish to keep all data from drive c:\ intact

2. How you reconfigure the RAID set? None of us has done this before.

Any technical articles relating to this would be extremely helpful.
