IE SP2 www.google.com tries to open www.google.co[1]
Posted by yogi on December 27th, 2005

Hey all,
I have this weird problem which by the way just started today. Whenever i
try to open www.google.com IE tries to open www.google.co[1] which is
obiously of an unknown extension therefore it gives me the file save dialog
box.

Here's what all i have tried uptill now:
Ad Aware/SpyBot scans
Antivirus scans
HiJack This
Delete all temporary internet files and cache/flushdns
Tried to ping the website as well as traceroute which suprisingly works
perfectly
Tried to use a different user account but the same result.
Searched and deleted all the files on my computer by the name of
www.google.co[1]
Tried to open the website using the ip address as well but to my dismay even
that dint work
Tried to access the website through a different web browser but the result
still the same

Any suggestions on what more i could possibly try??

Thanks
yogi

Hi Yogi,
I tried google.co/ at 'Sam Spade' (http://samspade.org/)
Nothing their either. You say it opens the save as dialog box; what
happens if you save it?
I did see reference to sites titled: http://www.google.co.in/ and other
countries as well. They are the usual Google search page, just in a
different language. Just my two cents but I'd try deleting my history
files and turning off auto-complete in IE6.
Best,
Treeman

Thanks for your reply treeman but as i mentioned in my previous post that i
have already done that.

One more thing that i noticed was that in the status bar of IE. As soon as i
type in www.google.com or the website in any other language like co.in it IS
resolved to the ip address and after that it shows me the save file dialog
box.

Any other clues or suggestions??
